Upgrade of Trumper Park Paths

We have now completed the pathways upgrade of Trumper Park, delivering a new 120m long and 1.5m wide sandstone path along the top edge of Trumper Park, creating a new safe, pedestrian tree-lined route connecting to Bowes Avenue (previously pedestrians walked on the road).

At the Harris Street end, a new 60m concrete footpath has been installed in addition to two Disability Discrimination Act (DDA) compliant kerb ramps at the intersection of Quarry and Harris Streets and a new picnic setting located directly opposite Council's Quarry Street depot.

Stage one works included an upgrade of approximately 300m of pathway and upgraded stairs to meet disability standards, with by-pass ramps now maximising accessibility for pedestrians, cyclists, prams, mobility scooters and walking frames.

The works also included new sandstone log walls, new park seats and improved bush regeneration works throughout Trumper Park.

The park and oval are named after cricket legend Victor Trumper. It contains a grass cricket wicket and cricket practice wickets. Australian Rules is played, including at night under floodlights, and a turf athletic track borders the oval.

A series of walking trails connect surrounding streets through regenerated bushland. The Paddington Community Garden is located off Quarry Street within Trumper Park.

History

Trumper Park

Originally Hampden Park Oval, it was built on reclaimed swamp - Glenmore Brook runs down and under its middle. It was named in honour of Viscount Hampden, Governor of New South Wales (1895-99) - Hampden Street alongside the park was originally named Ebenezer Street. The name of park was changed in 1931 to honour one of Paddington's cricketing heroes, Victor Trumper ( 1877-1915).
