Lyne Park
Announcement
We are excited to announce that the "Flying Boat", will be arriving soon. To ensure it is safely installed as quickly as possible, from 11 November, we will fence off & temporarily close a small section of the playground. This means the Flying Fox, Carousel, Rodeo Board & Double Rocker won’t be open for about 1 week. The 4-Bay Swing Set will be unavailable until works are complete (end-November).

We are excited to announce that the much-anticipated addition to the Lyne Park Playground, a fun and interactive piece of playground equipment, we are calling the 'Flying Boat, will be arriving soon.
To ensure it is safely installed as quickly as possible, from 11 November, we will fence off and temporarily close a small section of the playground. This means the Flying Fox, Carousel, Rodeo Board and Double Rocker won’t be open for use for approximately one week.
The 4 Bay Swing Set, adjacent to the Flying Boat, will be unavailable until all works are completed - which we estimate will be the last week of November.
We are doing everything we can to make sure the flying boat is ready for play, along with the rest of the playground, by the start of the school holidays.
Lyne Park is a large Sydney Harbour foreshore park with a diverse range of recreation opportunities including a basketball court and public tennis courts. The park has large grassed areas, shady trees for picnics and a café. It provides access to Rose Bay boat ramp, a commercial seaplane base, and public and commercial ferry services. Public access to the water for non-motorised watercraft is available via the boat ramp beside Woollahra Sailing Club.
The large playground is very popular for families with children. It has both natural and sail shade and includes areas of organic and rubber softfall. The playground features an activity net, a steel cable flying fox, traditional swings, animal rockers, slides and imaginative play units such as a fantasy house and a sea coaster vessel.

Reclaimed from tidal sand flats in 1902 to form a 14 acre (5.6 ha.) reserve named in honour of Sir William Lyne, the N.S.W. Premier from 1899 to 1901. In 1905, 8 acres (3.2 ha.) at the east end was revoked for use as a recreation oval for the Navy. In 1938, a flying boat base was established on this ground - the first flight to England leaving 5 July , 1938 (Short 'Empire' class, Cooee, VH-ABF). The last commercial flight was on 10 September, 1974 to Lord Howe Island. The base was subsequently demolished and returned to parkland.
