Spend some quality time with your pooch at one of these local off leash parks

Taking your dog to an off leash area is a great way to keep them fit, healthy and socialised. Whether you want your dog to have a run off leash, or a swim, our local area has plenty of places you can enjoy together.

There are four parks and reserves in our local area which are designated off leash areas 24 hours a day – meaning you can play all day. There’s also another seven parks and reserves with timed off leash areas.

Check out one of these 24/7 off leash areas next time you’re out and about.

Off leash etiquette

• Only let your dog off-lead in a designated off-leash exercise area.
• Pick up and bin your dog poo.
• You must be able to demonstrate effective voice control of your dog and keep in close proximity and within their sight at all times.
• Stay alert and keep a close eye on your dog. Sometimes large groups of dogs can cause them to be over-excited and this may lead to possible antisocial behaviour.
• Ensure your dog’s vaccinations, worming and flea treatments are all up to date.
• Always ask the owner of unknown dogs if your dog can go up and play, or if you can approach their dog.

Yarranabbe Park

If you and your doggo love a good harbour view, Yarranabbe Park is for you. There’s plenty of space for running, fetch and catching up with fellow canines. When you need a break you can enjoy the shade underneath one of the magnificent Moreton Bay Figs.

Dogs are allowed off leash at all times at Yarranabbe Park, but in the adjacent Rushcutters Bay Park dogs are only allowed off leash before 10:30am and after 3:30pm.

Rose Bay Foreshore

There are very few dog-friendly beaches in Sydney and we are lucky to have one right on our doorstop.

Dogs are allowed off leash all day on the Rose Bay Foreshore between Dumaresq Reserve and Percival Park – making this the perfect spot for cooling down together on warmer days.

Lighthouse Reserve

Take your dog for an off leash walk or run through Lighthouse Reserve and enjoy the epic views of the coastline and Macquarie Lighthouse. Solar powered lighting illuminates the walking path at night, making this a good choice after dark.

Dogs are allowed off leash at all times at Lighthouse Reserve, but in the adjacent Christison Park they are only permitted off leash before 10:30am and after 3:30pm.

Steyne Park (northern end, adjacent to seawall)

Located in front of the Double Bay ferry, dogs are allowed off leash at the northern end of Steyne Park between the seawall and footpath.

You can take your dog onto the Steyne Park playing fields, but they need to be on a leash. Dogs are not allowed on Double Bay Beach.
