Paediatric cardiac services at Sydney Children's Hospital

Mayor Richard Shields recently met with representatives of Sydney Children’s Hospital Randwick to discuss the NSW Government's decision to move paediatric heart bypass surgery to Westmead.

At the Council Meeting on 27 November, Mayor Shields put forward a Mayoral Minute urging the Health Minister to reconsider.

“A children’s hospital without cardiac surgery is not a fully functional children’s hospital,” he wrote.

Mayor Shields will be writing to the Premier, the Health Minister and local members to advocate for the continuation of complex heart surgery in Eastern Sydney.
