National Tree Day

Pull on your gloves, grab a spade and help Deputy Mayor Sarah Swan and I plant local native species at Christison Park in Vaucluse on National Tree Day, this Sunday 28 July from 9.30am to 12.30pm.

We are aiming to plant 1,000 trees on the day as part of our Urban Forest Strategy, which involves planting more than 13,000 trees to increase local tree canopy to 30%, so future generations can continue enjoying the unique, leafy character of our area and the environmental and health benefits trees bring.

After your planting, join us for a snack while the kids take part in our interactive native wildlife program. Visit National Tree Day for more info.

Procurement Policy

On 8 July, Woollahra Council resolved to ensure that no changes are made to the Council’s Procurement Policy that incorporate principles that are in alignment with the Boycott, Divestment and Sanctions (BDS) campaign against Israel.

Our resolution reflects our deep concern regarding the City of Sydney Council’s recent support for the BDS campaign through planned changes to its own policy.

The concept of vilifying Jewish businesses or individuals is an insidious practice and was commonplace prior to the systematic murder of 6-million Jews in World War 2.

Boycotts based on race, doxing individuals based on religion and fostering an environment where a minority group feels unsafe has no place in a modern pluralist democracy.

Gugara Park opening

In consultation with the local community and the Gujaga Foundation, Council redesigned and renamed Dillon Street Reserve in Paddington to Gugara Park. Gugara is the Dharawal word for Kookaburra, which we think is very fitting because its upgraded playground is always filled with laughter!

To celebrate its official renaming, we will be hosting a free sausage sizzle with a Welcome to Country address, reptile show, a special performance from Woollahra Preschool and a giveaway of 50 free native seedlings this Saturday 27 July from 11am to 12.30pm.

Everyone is welcome. Visit Gugara for further details.
