Message from the Mayor - 5 February 2025

Welcoming our new citizens
It was a great pleasure to meet local residents and celebrate with them at our first citizenship ceremonies for 2025, held last week at Council Chambers in Double Bay. Becoming a citizen is a very special occasion and it was an honour to share it with you all.
Thank you to Woollahra Councillors Julian Parmegiani and Hugh Woodgate, who joined me in welcoming our new citizens.
Congratulations also to all of the Woollahra residents who received Australia Day honours this year. We are fortunate to have so many outstanding individuals in our area who give back to the community.

Celebrating with our new citizens
Anzac Day writing competition
Anzac Day wreath laying ceremonies at the Double Bay Cenotaph in Steyne Park are deeply moving, and I am honoured to this year be hosting this event for the first time as Mayor.
As it’s so important that our younger generations continue to mark the sacrifice of our Anzacs and the contribution of our servicemen and women, each year Woollahra Council invites local students to enter our Anzac Day writing competition and tell us about a family member who served or what Anzac Day means to them. Entries can be a poem, non-fiction or creative writing.
Winners’ entries will be read at the wreath laying ceremony on 25 April and will also receive a Westfield gift voucher. To enter, visit Anzac Day by 30 March.
Watsons Bay Summer Market
Held at Robertson Park, Watsons Bay this Sunday 9 February from 10am to 4pm, hosted by Cambridge Markets and supported by Woollahra Council, the Watsons Bay Summer Market will feature 150 stalls offering a mix of food, fashion, art, craft, jewellery, photography, toys, pet treats and accessories, homewares, eco-friendly products, and more.
Entry is free. Visit Watsons Bay Summer Market for more info.
18 Footers anniversary
Local institution 18 Footers celebrated a significant milestone on Saturday, with a special 90th anniversary celebration in Steyne Park. Congratulations to the club and its members on its wonderful contribution to the sailing community.
