Happy New Year to all. I hope you were able to have a relaxing break with family and friends over the festive period and you have been enjoying everything our wonderful area has to offer during summer.

Book in for our expanded recycling pick-up service

Did you know that Australians buy more clothes than any other country, an average of 56 new items per person every year? About 200,000 tonnes of clothing ends up in landfill annually – the equivalent weight of more than four Sydney Harbour Bridges.

To help keep pre-loved clothes and accessories out of landfill and contribute to the circular economy, we have introduced a newly-expanded free kerbside recycling pick-up service which now includes clothing, handbags, hats, belts, shoes and jewellery.

Once collected, these items will be delivered to St Vincent de Paul for re-sale in one of their retail stores, or processed to create new textile products like rugs, mats or commercial rags.

We will also pick-up a range of e-waste and batteries for safe recycling – I encourage you to take up this option, which helps to keep these dangerous items out of bins, where they can start fires. Last year we experienced two fires which were suspected to have been caused by a lithium battery in general waste. The recent devastation in Los Angeles is another distressing reminder of the importance of being fire safe.

Book a free pick up via the Woollahra App or call 9391 7000 and we’ll collect it from your kerb or rear lane the next business day. Visit free recycling pick-up for information on the service.

Camp Cove Kiosk BYO alcohol trial

Woollahra Council has approved a 6-month trial of BYO alcohol at the Camp Cove Kiosk for its patrons from lunch time to 7pm in summer and lunch time to 6pm in winter.

We want to hear from you, including of you like this change and want this to become permanent.

If no adverse impacts on the community are observed during the trial, which runs until 20 June, Council may consider a permanent amendment to the permitted use of the lease to include BYO alcohol.
