Lyne Park Inclusive Playground opening event

Join me on Saturday 22 March to celebrate the official opening of Lyne Park Inclusive Playground in Rose Bay.

Experience the playground’s new features, plus free ice-cream, a sausage sizzle organised by the Rotary Club of Kings Cross and a local history display by the Aviation Historical Society of Australia, from 10am-11am. All are welcome.

I have loved hearing the overwhelmingly positive feedback from the community and seeing thousands of families enjoy the best new playground in Sydney over the summer. The upgrade caters to all age groups and abilities, with features including an intergenerational activity trail, four types of swings, a double flying fox, sensory walkway, water play zone, nature play area for older children and bike track.

We are grateful for funding assistance from the Australian and NSW Governments, and for the strong interest and participation we received from the community during consultation, which helped shape these improvements.

For further information, visit Lyne Park.

Have your say on Sayonara Slipway

Are you familiar with Sayonara Slipway in Darling Point?

It's part of Sir David Martin Reserve, adjacent to Yarranabbe Park and has been identified for improvement as part of our goal to improve water-based recreation and harbour access across the LGA, and we are seeking your feedback and ideas to help create a draft concept design.

Share your thoughts online by 24 March at Your Say Woollahra.

Rose Bay Beach clean up

A huge thanks to all of the volunteers who helped to keep Sydney Harbour beautiful and protect local birds and marine life by removing over 67 kilograms of litter at our Rose Bay Beach Clean Up Australia Day event on 2 March.

The most littered items this year were plastic wrappers and cigarette butts, with over 1200 of these items collected. Small plastic items cause significant problems for wildlife that mistake them for food.

In good news, some single use plastic items such as straws, plates, cutlery and take-away packaging were almost eliminated from our collection this year. While we also saw an ongoing reduction in styrofoam packaging, many tiny styrofoam balls were still present so wherever possible, please avoid this type of packaging altogether when making purchases.

Thanks also to the many other organisations and individuals that hosted clean ups across our local area, including: Scouts, Cooper Park residents, Cranbrook Preschool campuses, Newington College, and corporate groups such as Kearney, Suntory and MAX-N.

Lifeline counsellor workshop

Together with Lifeline, we’re holding a free, 1-day Accidental Counsellor Foundations workshop, aimed at teaching participants basic skills for dealing with people in crisis.

The workshop will provide the tools to be able to support family and friends, know how to respond appropriately, and effectively communicate during a challenging time in someone’s life. It will be held on 19 March, 9am-4:30pm at The Bay Room, first floor Cosmopolitan Centre, 2-22 Knox Street Double Bay. Please email kristina.lawrence@lifeline.org.au to reserve your spot.
