On 28 October 2024, Woollahra Council resolved to install a permanent public art installation to commemorate the events of 7 October 2023, in which 1,180 Israelis were killed, and to acknowledge the ongoing devastating impact on the Jewish community worldwide.

The Council hopes to collaborate with Waverley Council on the artwork and a suitable location, with a report, including Public Art Panel recommendations and costings to be considered at a future meeting.

"A public art installation would acknowledge the enduring importance of commemorating the events of 7 October 2023. We must never forget these horrendous events, and we recognise the incredible strength, faith and hope of the Jewish community and the wider community who are united in seeing the remaining hostages returned to their families," the Mayor, Councillor Sarah Swan said.

Council lowered the Israeli flag at the Woollahra Council Chambers on 29 October, after flying it since 10 October 2023, as a sign of solidarity with the Jewish community here and abroad.
