Australia’s 3G networks are closing down soon. It is important that you know if you will be impacted, and have time to upgrade your phone and other devices before they are switched off.

Telstra is planning to switch off its 3G network from 31 August 2024, and Optus from 1 September 2024. TPG Telecom/Vodafone has already switched off its 3G network in Australia.

After this time, 3G phones, tablets and devices will then be unable to connect to networks and some 4G enabled phones will also have limited capacity.

If you receive advice from your mobile service provider that your device is impacted, you must take urgent action to remain connected.

While it is well-understood that the 3G switch-offs impact 3G devices, some 4G devices are also impacted.

If you are unsure if you are impacted, contact your telecommunications provider.
