Launched on International Women’s Day in 2007, the "Women in Woollahra" project celebrates the contributions of women in the local community, both past and present, across various fields. This exhibition highlights the roles women have played in shaping Woollahra through government, business, and community life.

The project features oral history recordings and written biographies, spotlighting key figures such as Belle Miller, Woollahra’s first female alderman, and Brenda "Dutchie" Backhouse, the first woman to serve as mayor. It also honours Alice Doyle, a pioneering restaurateur, Rosemary Foot, a prominent politician and businesswoman, Pat Thompson, a dedicated author and urban conservationist, and Thistle Harris Stead, a respected botanist and educator.

Through interviews conducted by professional historian Frank Heimans and research by Woollahra Library staff, this exhibition brings to life the stories of these remarkable women and their lasting impact on the community.
