Alcohol Free Zones and Alcohol Prohibited Areas

Alcohol Free Zones (AFZ) and Alcohol Prohibited Areas (APA) give police the power to confiscate alcohol to prevent alcohol related anti-social behaviour and crime. Any person observed to be drinking in an AFZ may have the alcohol in their possession immediately seized. Alcohol can be confiscated from people within an APA. AFZs in the Woollahra Local Government Area can only be enforced by the NSW Police. APAs are managed by both police and Council's Security staff.

This will assist with the management of crowd behaviour within certain areas and surrounding streets on New Year's Eve.

Glassware is not permitted in public parks and reserves.

Alcohol Free Zones (AFZ)

In response to requests from the Eastern Suburbs Police Area Command (ESPAC), Woollahra Council will establish Alcohol Free Zones (AFZ) in a number of streets in the Darling Point and Rose Bay areas to assist Police with the management of crowds during the New Year's Eve festivities.

Following consultation with the ESPAC, Council will establish AFZs during New Year's Eve festivities in the following areas of Woollahra in accordance with Section 644 of the Local Government Act 1993 on the listed dates:

  • 12.01am on 31 December 2024 to 12 Midday on 1 January 2025.

Darling Point

  • New South Head Road (along the frontage of Rushcutters Bay Park)
  • New Beach Road
  • Darling Point Road (from the intersection of Mona Road and Greenoaks Avenue to and including Darling Point Reserve)
  • Yarranabbe Road
  • Goomerah Crescent
  • Hampden Avenue
  • Bennett Avenue
  • Thornton Street
  • Annandale Street

Rose Bay

  • Dumaresq Road
  • Fernleigh Avenue
  • Caledonian Road
  • Collins Avenue
  • Vickery Avenue

Vaucluse

  • Queens Avenue
