Electric vehicle charging stations
Council supports and encourages the uptake of Electric Vehicles to help reduce community greenhouse gas emissions, while also reducing noise and air pollution.
Public charging locations
The locations of public charging stations in Woollahra, Waverley and Randwick Council areas can be found at this Have Your Say page. The page includes a map of recently installed chargers and proposed locations along with information about our community consultation process. You can also suggest a location for a new charger on this page.
To find charging stations in other locations refer to the PlugShare map below or search for ‘electric vehicle charging station’ in Google Maps, Apple Maps, or your preferred maps app.
Eastern Suburbs Electric Vehicle Infrastructure Strategy
In 2023, Woollahra, Waverley and Randwick Councils published Leading the Charge: Electric Vehicle Infrastructure Strategy(PDF, 5MB). This outlines the vision and infrastructure required to support the growing number of EVs on our roads, with 35,000 projected to be registered across the area by 2030.
To cater for this growing demand, additional public chargers will continue to be installed across our area. The chargers will be funded through government, residential and private sector investment, with the type of chargers installed determined by the average length of stay and surrounding urban form.
The Eastern Suburbs charging network
In 2019, our three eastern suburbs Councils were the first in NSW to establish a network of Council owned and operated public charging stations throughout the region. These charging stations are available on the Chargefox app. More information about their locations, pricing, and a user guide is available on the Chargefox app. Woollahra Council owned chargers are powered by 100% renewable energy.
NSW kerbside charging grants
The NSW Kerbside Charging Grants, which began in 2024, co-fund the installation of public electric vehicle charging stations across NSW. The aim of the grants is to assist the 1 in 3 drivers in NSW which do not have access to off-street parking to charge an electric vehicle. In our area, the proposed chargers to be installed in 2025 are a mix of Council operated chargers and privately operated chargers that will all be available for public use.
