A large proportion of our local population is aged 65 years and over. Whether it’s an exercise group or choir, computer class or discussion group, these older adults services and programs are tailored to help you keep enjoying a healthy, active and involved lifestyle, right into retirement and beyond.
Festival of Fun
During NSW Seniors Festival, in March 2025, Woollahra Council in partnership with local community organisations will host a range of free and low cost events and activities. The festival is an opportunity for the Woollahra community to get excited, get out and get involved! It will be a 'time to shine' for Woollahra's seniors!

- Home support providers near you
Services for older people and their carers to live independently in their own home or the community, under the Commonwealth Home Support Program.
- Holdsworth Community Centre & Services
Offer a broad range of useful support services and activities.
- Holdsworth meal delivery and home shopping service.
Nutritious quality meals delivered, to enable people to live independently.
- Sir Roden and Lady Cutler Foundation
Transport for the elderly and the disabled for vital medical appointments.
- Benevolent Society - Home and Community Care in Eastern Sydney
A range of support services, including in-home support, support for carers and respite.
- Woollahra Libraries
Provide various activities and services, including a home library service, to help you continue to stay connected.
- Next of Kin Register
A NSW Police program where older people who live alone can register personal information so that in an emergency, police can contact their next of kin if needed, as well as having access to their nominated doctor, dentist, and any medical alerts.
- Telecross Telechat
Australian Red Cross service which provides social & emotional support(PDF, 476KB)
via a daily telephone call to check on an older person’s wellbeing.

Low cost and free community services for older persons available in Australia.

The Aged Care Volunteer Visitors Scheme (ACVVS) is available to older Australians who may not have regular contact with friends or relatives, or are feeling isolated from their culture or heritage, can be referred by an aged care service provider to a volunteer visiting network member in the local area. Visits from a volunteer are available to anyone receiving government-funded residential aged care or a Home Care Package. This includes people who are approved and waiting for an aged care home or on the National Priority System for a Home Care Package.

Planning for the future
Council has been supporting the direct service provision of ageing and disability services for many years, with the provision of community facilities, direct services and the allocation of grants and subsidies.
The Delivery Program and Operational Plan describes how Council will work with the community to achieve its goals. The Disability Inclusion Action Plan (PDF version(PDF, 2MB) and Easy Read Version(PDF, 2MB)) and Social and Cultural Plan(PDF, 5MB) identifies short and long term priorities for the Woollahra community including seniors and people with a disability.

Seniors Rights Service provides free legal advice, advocacy, information and referrals. The service is a fully accredited community legal centre. Aged Care Advocacy can provide support for recipients of all Commonwealth funded aged care services.

Call 1800 171 866. This free service has been established to answer COVID-related questions and to provide help, support and resources to Older Australians impacted by COVID-19 in any way.

Information on staying in your home, residential care and other health issues.
