Woollahra is recognised as the home of many of Australia's most acclaimed artists, authors and filmmakers, including poet Banjo Patterson, Nobel Prize winning author Patrick White, iconic opera singer Dame Joan Sutherland as well as internationally recognised visual artists Charles Blackman, Russell Drysdale, Donald Friend, Fairlie Kingston, Margaret Olley, Lloyd Rees and Martin Sharp.

Council's role

Our role is to facilitate a creative and vibrant community where people of all ages and backgrounds have access to lifelong learning opportunities and cultural activities. This is achieved through the development of policies, strategies, partnerships and events. On 16 December 2024, Council adopted the Woollahra Arts and Culture Strategy and Action Plan, 2024-2028(PDF, 3MB). This Strategy creates a framework to define the purpose and direction of Woollahra’s cultural life and brings together the diverse arts, culture and creative activities being delivered within the Municipality.
